What does Firegear Outdoors actually sell?

Firegear Outdoors sells burners, pans, ignition systems and kits — the parts that make fire — plus a smaller range of finished pieces. Where Prism Hardscapes and American Fyre Designs ship a finished concrete table with the burner already inside, Firegear expects a mason, a deck builder or a determined homeowner to supply the enclosure.

The current lines on the manufacturer's site: Pro Series Burners & Kits, Firepit Burner Systems, SRW/Paver Kits, the AWS Ignition System, Media & Jewelry, Accessories, the Sanctuary Series of hand-cast GFRC tables and bowls, the Kalea Bay linear fireplace and the LUME smokeless wood insert. Why does Firegear BTU go up with size when other brands' does not?

Buy a finished fire table and the manufacturer picks one burner and drops it into every size in the family. Prism Hardscapes rates nearly its entire catalog at 65,000 BTU/hr whether the table is 30 inches or 70. The Outdoor Plus does the same. The furniture gets bigger; the flame does not.

Firegear is the exception that proves the rule. You are buying the burner itself, so output tracks burner length almost linearly: 80,000 BTU/hr on natural gas at 24 inches, 250,000 at 80 inches. Which Firegear Pro Series burner shapes and sizes can you buy?

Pro Series is Firegear's premium brass line, in Snowflake, Spur, Linear H and Linear T patterns. The figures below come from Firegear's 2024 installation and operating instructions, not marketing copy. Natural gas and propane ratings differ — and on the largest H-burner the propane figure is actually lower.

What size pan opening does each Firegear burner need?

This is the table that saves the build. Firegear publishes a minimum opening for its drop-in round and square flat-pan systems, and the pan is what your masonry, framing or paver enclosure gets cut around. Miss by an inch and the pan will not sit.

Two details people miss: the pan must be drilled for drainage, and the enclosure needs ventilation. A sealed masonry box with a propane burner inside is a gas trap — propane is heavier than air and pools at the base rather than venting upward.

Which Firegear ignition system should you pick, and what does it really cost?

Firegear lists three ignition families, plus a push-button spark option on its finished pieces. The names matter because the part numbers follow them.

• MT (Match Throw) — a manual valve, no electronics. You open the gas and light it. Nothing to fail, and no safety shut-off. Cheapest by a wide margin.
• TPSI (Thermocouple Piloted Safety Ignition) — a standing pilot with a thermocouple that closes the gas valve on loss of flame, lit by an included battery spark igniter. Firegear does not publish the battery type or voltage.
• AWS (All Weather Electronic Ignition System) — full electronic control, remote-capable, flame sensing, and the only one that relights itself. Runs on a 30 VDC supply Firegear calls a "Pool Certified Power Supply for 1 – 4 AWS Ignition Systems," part FG-AWS-PS-30V320 (320 watts). Firegear does not publish that supply's input voltage — confirm it with your electrician before roughing in the circuit.
• Push-button spark — a spark ignitor on an otherwise manual valve. Convenience, not safety automation.

The price gap is what buyers underestimate. Here is what the three levels cost on one identical product in our catalog — the 30-inch Firegear Sanctuary 3 GFRC fire bowl, stainless burner, natural gas:

On a $1,788 fire bowl, AWS nearly triples the price. It is the right call for a commercial patio, a rental or anywhere the feature gets switched on by someone who is not you. Is the Firegear TMSI ignition system still available?

No. TMSI — Thermocouple Manual Safety with Spark Ignition — is listed by Firegear Outdoors as a legacy system, alongside TFS (Thermocouple Flame Sense); the manufacturer's ignition resource page states plainly that it no longer manufactures any of them. That matters, because plenty of retailers still list TMSI kits. If you own one it works as documented: knob to ON, press the spark button, hold the knob in while sparking, then keep holding 30 seconds after it lights so the thermocouple heats. Spark igniters are still sold as service parts. For new builds, TPSI is the equivalent.

Brass or stainless steel: what does Firegear actually use?

Pro Series burners are brass — Firegear describes the whole line, Snowflake through Linear T, as exclusively premium brass. Brass resists corrosion well and holds port geometry, which is why it carries the same lifetime residential warranty as the stainless parts. Pans and the non-Pro burner line are stainless steel, and the manuals are specific about grade: "It is recommended to use 304 Stainless Steel." That applies to pans a builder fabricates as well as Firegear's own.

On 316: Firegear does not publish 316 marine-grade stainless anywhere in the Pro Series or flat-pan literature we reviewed. Grade 316 adds molybdenum for chloride resistance and earns its premium within a few hundred feet of salt water — but only if the part really is 316. If a listing claims it on a Firegear component, ask for the model number and the spec sheet.

What clearances does Firegear require around a burner?

Firegear's numbers sit at the conservative end of the industry, and its ceiling clearance on long burners is the highest we have found in any manufacturer manual.

• Side walls: 36 inches, every model.
• Floor: 18 inches.
• Ceiling or overhead: 96 inches for shorter burners (H24 through H40, T24 through T44, Spur BS10 and BS14); 120 inches for H50 through H80, T56 through T90 and the 21-inch Burning Spur.

Ten feet of overhead clearance rules out most pergolas and every covered patio with a standard 8-foot soffit. There is no industry-wide standard — American Fyre Designs publishes 36 inches to the sides and 72 above, The Outdoor Plus 48 and 96, Prism Hardscapes 4 feet and 6 feet. Always cite the manual for the burner you bought; our clearance reference table by brand keeps them in one place.

Supply pressures match the rest of the industry: natural gas 7.0 inches water column normal (5.0 min, 10.5 max); propane 11.0 inches normal (10.5 min, 13.0 max). Installation must follow the National Fuel Gas Code, ANSI Z223.1 / NFPA 54, or CSA B149.1 in Canada.

What does the Firegear warranty actually cover?

Residential warranty language, quoted from the installation manuals: "LIFETIME WARRANTY ON CONSTRUCTION AND MANUFACTURER DEFECTS. LIFETIME WARRANTY — STAINLESS STEEL BURNERS AND PANS. LIFETIME WARRANTY — BRASS BURNERS. FIVE (5) YEAR WARRANTY — GAS VALVE, SPARK IGNITER, PILOT ASSEMBLIES."

Commercial gets a different deal: "TWO (2) YEAR WARRANTY ON CONSTRUCTION AND MANUFACTURER DEFECTS. TWO (2) YEAR WARRANTY — STAINLESS STEEL BURNERS AND PANS. TWO (2) YEAR WARRANTY — BRASS BURNERS."

Read the split carefully. The metal is covered for life in a home; the parts that actually fail — valves, igniters, pilot assemblies — carry five years. That is a fair reason to think twice before spending $3,280 on an ignition upgrade you did not need. And improper installation voids coverage: run the burner on the wrong pressure and the valve failure is on you.

Who should not buy a Firegear burner?

If you want something delivered on a pallet that you set down and light the same afternoon, Firegear's burner line is the wrong purchase. You are buying a component that needs an enclosure, a pan, a gas line, ventilation and a licensed installer. The Sanctuary and Kalea Bay pieces are the exception — those ship complete.

It is also the wrong call if your gas supply is fixed and modest.
